Drum Safety Cabinets
Eagle drum cabinets safely contain flammable liquids or hazardous waste near your work area. Our cabinets are constructed of 18-gauge steel, and feature reinforced double-wall construction with air space on sides, top, bottom, back, and doors. The cabinets are coated with a lead-free, high-gloss, baked-on powder finish for superior protection against chemical corrosion. Cabinets come with large FLAMMABLE - KEEP FIRE AWAY and HAZARDOUS WASTE labels.
60 and 55 Gallon Drum Flammable Storage Cabinet Options
You can choose between horizontal or vertical drum storage. The vertical cabinets are available for one or two 60 or 55-gallon drums and feature a convenient half shelf for additional storage space for accessories or containers. Drum storage cabinets come with drum supports, and Haz-Drum cabinets include drum rollers for easy drum handling. Our drum cabinets are NFPA code 30 and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.106(d)(3) compliant.
Drum Safety Cabinet Questions
There are different sizes and types of drum safety cabinets available to meet various storage and dispensing needs. Horizontal drum safety cabinets can safely contain 30- or 55-gallon drums, and can be used to dispense flammables from drums into smaller vessels. Vertical drum safety cabinets can be used as a pumping or waste accumulation station, and typically have adjustable shelves to store smaller containers. The capacity of drum safety cabinets varies based on the size and type of cabinet, with some models able to store multiple drums at once. When choosing a drum safety cabinet, it is important to consider the type of flammable liquids being stored and dispensed, the amount being stored, and any applicable regulations or codes. The following set of questions and answers identify the different ways to store chemical drums according to industry regulations.
How do you store chemical drums?
Chemical drums need to breathe. Therefore, it’s recommended to store chemical drums on their side with bungs horizontal to each other. Store drums with side bungs on end or on the side, bung down. This allows the drum to breathe. If the bung is submerged internally by its own contents, the drum is unable to breathe in moisture.
What is a drum safety cabinet?
Similar to a safety cabinet, a drum safety cabinet safely stores flammable liquids contained in drums and safety cans near your work area. A drum safety cabinet is ideal for industrial and commercial use, where bulk storage of flammables is required. A drum safety cabinet helps minimize the chance of fires caused or spread by ignition of flammable liquids, protecting people and personnel.
What are the different types of drum storage safety cabinets?
There are two different types of drum storage, including horizontal and vertical drum safety cabinets. Eagle’s horizontal cabinets are available for 30 to 55-gallon drums and the vertical cabinets are available for one or two 60 or 55-gallon drums. When choosing between horizontal and vertical drum storage, you’ll want to take into consideration the acceptable methods for dispensing flammable liquids from them. The gravity flow method uses a self-closing safety faucet that requires the drum to be in a horizontal position for dispensing. This method requires the use of a safety drum vent in the drum, a spill tray under the faucet, bonding wire between the drum and the container being filled, and a grounding wire between the drum and an earth ground such as a cold water pipe. The pump method utilizes a pump to draw the contents out of a vertically stored drum. A safety pump transfers flammable and combustible liquids from bulk to intermediate containers.
When is a drum safety cabinet recommended?
If you’re using drums to contain flammable liquids or hazardous waste near your work area, a drum safety cabinet is recommended to properly store the contents. A drum safety cabinet reduces the risk of fire by safely and securely storing the materials. It also helps you comply with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.106 and Uniform Fire Code 79.202 regulations.
Do you need to bond and ground containers when dispensing flammable liquids?
When dispensing flammable or combustible liquids from one container to another, it is important to either bond or ground the containers. This will prevent static discharge, which can ignite vapor and cause fires or explosions. For complete information on recommended practices on static electricity, refer to NFPA 77, Recommended Practice on Static Electricity. Grounding drains the static charge to the earth. Bonding connects the dispensing and receiving container, so they have the same static potential. Thus, eliminating the chance of static discharge.
